About boat enclosures

An enclosure closes in the space under a bimini, T-top or hard top with canvas and clear vinyl panels. Panels are patterned on the boat so zippers line up and the clear vinyl sits without ripples. We use Strataglass clear vinyl in 30 or 40 gauge, framed in Sunbrella canvas. A single clouded or cracked panel can be replaced without redoing the whole enclosure.

Is Strataglass the same as isinglass?

Isinglass is what boaters call any clear enclosure window. Strataglass is a brand of coated clear vinyl made to resist scratches and clouding.

How long does Strataglass last?

It depends on sun, care and storage. Clean it only with products the maker approves and keep it covered when the boat sits.

What gauge clear vinyl do you use?

Usually 30 to 40 gauge. Thicker vinyl holds its shape on large panels, thinner vinyl rolls up more easily.

Can you replace just one panel?

Yes. A clouded or cracked panel can be replaced on its own and matched to the rest of the enclosure.

How much does an enclosure panel cost?

A clear vinyl enclosure panel starts from $350, set by size, gauge and zippers.

Do you replace T-top canvas?

Yes. T-top canvas, enclosure panels and zippers are replaced to fit your frame, and a single clouded panel can be done on its own.

Is isinglass the same as eisenglass?

Yes. Eisenglass is a common spelling of isinglass, the word boaters use for clear enclosure windows.
