Every seat is patterned by hand from the boat, sewn from vinyl, foam and thread rated for sun and water, and fitted on board. Foam and base boards often need replacing too. Home furniture work uses indoor materials and needs no dock visits.

Why is boat upholstery so expensive

Boat seats are rarely a standard shape, so each cover is patterned from your seat. Outdoor marine vinyl, antimicrobial or quick-dry foam and UV-rated thread cost more than indoor versions, and vinyl quality and price generally go hand in hand.

    What you are paying for

Removal and refitting on the boat, patterns, sewing, and whatever is under the vinyl. Wet foam and rotten boards are the usual extras.

How to keep the cost down

Recover only what is worn and keep foam that is still dry. Fix one torn panel instead of the whole seat. Cover seats when you leave the boat so the new vinyl lasts. Recovering starts from $200 per cushion and $500 per helm seat.

What we do in the shop

    • Check every cushion before quoting
    • Replace only the foam and boards that are gone
    • Price per item, so you can choose what to redo

    Questions

    Questions boat owners ask

Why are boat cushions so expensive?

The cover is patterned for one shape, the vinyl and foam are rated for sun and water, and the foam often needs replacing. A recovered cushion starts from $200. Your exact quote comes from your photos.

    Is reupholstery worth the money?

For custom or molded seats, usually yes, since a new seat of the same shape costs more or does not exist. For small stock seats, a new seat can be the cheaper choice.

Why does new foam cost extra?

Outdoor foam has to drain or resist mildew, so it costs more than indoor foam. New quick-dry foam starts from $75 per cushion.
