Boat headliner is usually vinyl on a thin foam backing. The foam backing is antimicrobial, hides imperfections in the overhead and cuts away around bolt heads. Enduratex rates its 54 inch PVC headliner as passing the ASTM G-21 mildew test. A carpet-type hull liner is the soft option.

How headliner vinyl goes up
Apply adhesive to both surfaces, and not to use a water-based cement or a silicone-based spray with foam-backed headliner.
Flat panels come down, get new vinyl and snap back. Curved overheads and work around hatches and lights take patterns cut on the boat.

What is the best fabric to use for replacing a headliner?
For a boat cabin, marine vinyl on a thin foam backing. The foam backing is antimicrobial, and Enduratex rates its PVC headliner as passing the ASTM G-21 mildew test. It wipes clean with mild soap.
Can I fix a sagging headliner without removing it?
Pins and spray glue hold for a short while in Florida heat. The fix that lasts is new material with contact adhesive on both surfaces, which means the old liner comes off first.
What can I use instead of headliner fabric?
A carpet-type hull liner such as HullBlanket. It is polypropylene, 72 inch wide, cuts without fraying and stretches over uneven surfaces. It cleans with soap and water.
