For Florida sun, pick an outdoor marine line over indoor upholstery vinyl. Morbern says all its marine vinyls carry anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agents, OMNOVA says the same of Nautolex, and Naugahyde All American and EverSoft are outdoor seating lines too.

How marine vinyl differs from regular vinyl
Seating vinyl splits into indoor lines that feel like leather and outdoor lines built for UV and weather, such as Morbern, Naugahyde All American and EverSoft. Morbern says all its marine vinyls contain anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agents, and OMNOVA says the same of Nautolex.
Many marine lines add a factory top coat. This coat holds the plasticizers in, and once a harsh cleaner strips it, the vinyl stiffens and cracks.
Can you use bleach on marine vinyl
It depends on the line, and makers say different things. Morbern allows bleach diluted up to 10 percent on products listed as bleach cleanable, followed by several cold water rinses. OMNOVA says Nautolex with PreFixx takes one part bleach to five parts water, and that undiluted bleach can dull or damage it.
Keep undiluted bleach, degreasers, Goo Gone and Magic Eraser off seating vinyl. Read the care sheet for your vinyl line before any bleach touches it.
Why boat seats turn pink
Morbern and OMNOVA both explain that pink stain comes from microbes growing in wet foam or wood under the cover. Their by-product dissolves in the vinyl's plasticizer and moves to the surface, so even protected vinyl stains, and washing does not remove it.
The fix is in the build. Seams should shed water, foam should dry fast, and every part of the seat should be treated against microbes.

Is there a difference between marine vinyl and regular vinyl?

Can I use a Magic Eraser on boat seats?
No. Abrasives strip the factory top coat, which cannot be put back, and the vinyl then stiffens and cracks. The Nautolex care sheet also rules out abrasive powders and steel wool.
Does sunscreen damage vinyl seats?
OMNOVA warns that suntan lotion and insect repellent can stain Nautolex fast, and Morbern and Sunbrella exclude sun lotion stains from their vinyl warranties. Let sunscreen soak in before you sit, and wash spills off with mild soap.
How long does marine vinyl last in Florida?
Vinyl makers do not state a lifespan in years, since it varies with exposure. Morbern's marine vinyl warranty covers manufacturing defects for one year. Sunbrella Horizon carries a 5-year limited product warranty.
Is marine vinyl better than leather?
On an open boat, yes for most seats. Marine vinyl is waterproof, wipes clean and carries UV and mildew inhibitors, while real leather needs shade and regular care. Leather-look marine vinyl gives the grain without the upkeep.
What are the downsides of vinyl fabric?
It gets hot in full sun, it does not breathe, and harsh cleaners strip its top coat so it stiffens and cracks. Cool-touch grades and maker-approved cleaners reduce both.
