    About helm seat reupholstery

Helm seats take the most wear on a boat, from sun on the console to spray and constant use. Most can be recovered on their original frame, which keeps the shape and the fit to the pedestal. We replace foam that holds water or has collapsed, and swap a soft wooden base for a new plastic one. Flip-up bolsters are patterned so they still fold without pulling the seams.

    Questions

    Questions about helm seats

What are the most comfortable boat seats?

Seats with firm, well supported foam and a bolster you can lean on while standing. When we rebuild a helm seat, you choose how firm the foam feels.

Is it cheaper to reupholster or buy new boat seats?

For helm chairs and molded seats, recovering is usually cheaper than a new seat of the same shape. For small stock seats a new seat can cost less, and we say so from your photos.

How much does it cost to reupholster a boat seat?

A helm or captain chair starts from $500 and a bolster from $180. New plastic seat bases start from $60 when the old wood has gone soft.

How difficult is it to reupholster boat seats?

Flat cushions are simple. Helm seats with curves, pleats and bolsters need patterns, the right foam and a walking foot machine.
